Our ultimate goal: Promoting your health 

A focus on patients and an appreciation for staff characterize Stefan Schiffhauer’s work at the Meliva Dalberg Clinic. He has been heading up surgery, orthopedics and trauma surgery departments for many years – and with good reason: “Supporting patients in their recovery is my passion.” 

Stefan Schiffhauer first became aware of the Dalberg Clinic when it was taken over by Meliva. He saw it as a hugely exciting project and was certain he wanted to be part of it: “The hospital has state-of-the-art equipment, has been freshly renovated, and allows me to realize my potential as a doctor.” Before joining the Meliva team in July 2022, he worked at Herz Jesu Krankenhaus in Fulda, Klinikum Fulda and was a Department Chief at Klinikum Bad Salzungen. Schiffhauer specializes in treatments and surgeries focusing on the hips, knees and shoulders – and has a particular interest in endoprosthetics, more commonly known as joint replacement. “However, I really enjoy all aspects of work relating to people’s health,” emphasizes Schiffhauer. 

Dr. Wolfgang Schmidt’s career in medicine stretches back more than 40 years. His wealth of knowledge is as vast as his love for his profession. Schmidt has headed up the Anesthesia department since 2019 – and is very happy to do so. “The clinic is outstanding,” he says. “I have the ability to explore individual patients’ wishes. We provide high-quality surgical and anesthesiological care.” 

Wolfgang Schmidt has been a member of the Professional Association of German Anesthesiologists (Berufsverband Deutscher Anästhesisten, BDA) for 28 years – and was even awarded the association’s badge of honor in 2019. His expertise vastly enriches the medical team at the Meliva Dalberg Clinic. As for his personal goals, Schmidt’s mind is clear: “I hope to develop our clinic, shape its future and help preserve its outstanding qualities.” 

What’s the most fascinating subject in the world? “Our health,” says Dr. Gerald Loos. The Managing Director of Meliva Germany has set himself an ambitious goal: “In Meliva, we’re creating an innovative healthcare provider, the likes of which has never been seen before in Germany.” Dr. Loos has been working in the healthcare sector for more than 10 years, managing institutions and consulting numerous key stakeholders in the sector, including several health insurance providers. “There are lots of good doctors in Germany,” he says, confidently. “However, the system presents numerous challenges that can suffocate good ideas before they have a chance to develop. I want to change that. That’s why we’ve entered the German outpatient care market with Meliva.” 

Georg Kohl believes the idea behind Meliva is “the perfect way to safeguard medical care – in urban areas but, above all, in rural regions, too.” Georg Kohl became Meliva Germany’s Director of Operations in 2022 and is responsible for overseeing all inpatient and surgical facilities. 

 He finds his work immensely gratifying. “There are very few jobs as varied and engaging as managing a hospital,” says Kohl. It takes business acumen as well as knowledge of human resources, accounting, procurement, medical technology and construction. But that’s not all, as experience working with medical and care-related processes is also hugely important. However, Georg Kohl has all of this at his disposal: he worked as a nurse specializing in anesthesia and intensive care, followed by a degree in business and health management. This path laid solid foundations for his future at Meliva.
