Meliva is part of the Finnish healthcare provider Mehiläinen and has been a pioneer in outpatient healthcare for more than 100 years.
The story begins in Finland
When a group of physicians founded Mehiläinen in Finland in 1909, their goal was to improve health and wellbeing.
Although the world has changed over the past century, our mindset has remained the same. The best treatment is still provided by people who see it as their life’s mission.

Founding of Sairaala O.Y. Mehiläinen in Helsinki. Mehiläinen is named after a legend from the national epic, the Kalevala.

1932
Operations are moved to the new clinic in Töölö, which is still active today.

1940
During the Winter War, the hospital serves as a military hospital for the Finnish Red Cross.

1950
Introduction of group appointments, laying the foundation for the future operations of the medical clinic.

1970
Start of occupational healthcare services for companies.

1990
The economic crisis leads to a drastic decline in demand for private healthcare services.

2000
Mehiläinen’s national service network is established. Expansion of services, including social care and public healthcare.

2015
Mehiläinen and Mediverkko merge. Janne-Olli Järvenpää is appointed CEO of the new company.

2022
The international growth of the now 114-year-old Mehiläinen continues in Sweden, Germany, and Estonia. The subsidiaries BeeHealthy and HSS also continue to grow.
Expansion into Germany, Sweden, and Estonia
With this strategy, we have grown into one of the most recognized and respected healthcare providers in Finland. Our work is not only well received there, but also internationally: Meliva is active in Sweden, Estonia, and the German healthcare market.
